Sons In Retirement (aka, Seniors in Recreation or SIR) is a non-profit public benefit corporation for retired men. SIR assists men in renewing old friendships and making new friends through our Speaker Series monthly and a variety of activities. Having fun is our goal. We have more than 10,000 members in 100+ Branches throughout northern California from Bakersfield to the Oregon border and Lake Tahoe to the Pacific Ocean.
Branch 007 has monthly luncheon meetings where Sirs renew old friendships and establish new ones. Invitees for our Speakers Series help us build community. Some of our luncheons include wives, partners and guests.
Branch 007 facilitates activities like golf, cycling, bowling, hiking, reading is open to many other activities that are of interest to our members.
Our mission is to help members enhance their lives and the lives of other members through fun activities, our Speaker Series luncheons and other events. The ultimate goal is making Friends for Life. SIR is a 501(c)4 non-profit public benefit corporation.
Our expectations of our members are few: be a friendly and sociable guy, participate, volunteer as your time and interest allows, spread the word about SIR by inviting guests and help encourage them to join, grow our organization and share in the fun.
Our achievements:
Men with friends have more fun, live interesting and healthier lives. Thus on July 23, 1958 Damian Reynolds got together with two friends. On August 20 fifteen men joined Damian and his friends and “Sons in Recreation” was founded. The organization was incorporated in 1959. It was decided that the group would remain apolitical.
Recently, Branch 007 led a rebranding effort which led to many branches adopting the “Seniors in Recreation” moniker
Post COVID statewide SIRs membership took a major hit, dropping from 33,000 members to 8500. Branch 007 is a statewide leader as we continue to advance new activities, have a bold Speakers Series and laugh a lot.
